Hi,
I'm exploring iDive in the hope of using it to catalogue my growing collection of DV tapes. It looks like a great product and I've run a few tapes through it with out capturing the raw DV data, as I don't have that much free disk space. After putting together a clip list in iDive is there a way to then capture the DV data without doing it manually by fast forwarding or skipping through clips !

I've seen a few sections on exporting to FC Pro which sounds like it would do what I'm after, but I only have FC Express at the moment, version 1 no less ! There is a question in the FAQ - Number 14 that sounded like is was going to explain how it could be done in FC Express but the answer is truncated. !

Can iDive reprocess the tape and capture only part of the data ?
Is there any other simplish way to do this ?
Or, am I stuck with buying FC Pro to do this part ?

Thanks,
Dion

Welcome on board,

I understand capturing DV data from an existing clip list is planned in a future release, but it's not currently possible. You have to use FC Pro for that.

XML export works with FC Pro 4.5 and later and with FC Express 3. I've done tests with FCE 2 and it doesn't work. Looks like the code was herited in FC Express HD from FC Pro HD. But it was not available in FC Pro 4 and FC Express 2.

Hi,

Thanks Antoine for the reply.

FCE HD is the only FCE family member that can do it...I am not really sure it was even intended by Apple as this feature is documented nowhere.

We will do recapture at some point in the very near future. iDive was designed from the beginning to make recapture possible and I believe that we can make it even better than in FCP because we know how not to be fooled by timecode breaks....(something that FCP does not handle well).

Stay tuned for infos on those developments.

Best regards,

Matthieu

P.S: The XML worklow works great with FCP. I'll post an note soon describing the workflow for HDV users.

Thanks for the answers ... I'll buy my self a copy now and start coding up my tapes. I'll look forward to the addition of the recapture in a hopefully soon release rolleyes.gif

Might have to think about FC Express HD in the meantime ...

Thanks,
Dion

I too would really like the recapture feature.

My Sony Handycam sometimes resets the timecode to zero part-way through a tape. Is there any way you could get round this when implementing recapture?

Many thanks for a wonderful product - iDive is fantastic.
